Pipestem Vacation

For our 1999 vacation, we rented a cabin at the Pipestem State Park resort near Hinton, West Virginia, during the week of August 23rd. Jean's parents, her grandmother, and her Brother's family also stayed in a seperate 4BR cabin right next to ours.

We started down around 10:00 AM on Monday, in a two van caravan with Jean's parents. Jean and I stopped with the kids at the New River Gorge Bridge visitor's center, both for the view and the chance to stretch our legs. Once we arrived at the park, we unpacked and moved into the cabin, and then the kids were ready to hop on their bikes and relieve some of the muscle strain from the trip down.

Fred, Amy and the kids arrived the next day, and the following day it rained, but we went hiking through the woods anyway. We also took the opportunity to ride the Tram down the mountain to the Mountain Creek Lodge for lunch, and then it was up to the stables for an afternoon ride on the horses.

The rest of the week, the weather was great. The activities included biking, swimming, golfing, fishing, and lots of kids running around chasing each other. All-in-all, a great trip and relaxing vacation.
